After the mumbai blasts Dr. Kumaraswamy wrote an article published by DNA citing reasons and measures to curb terrorism in India. It was titillating to say the least but his views are unreasonable and impractical. His premise that muslims and christians being foreign to this land and essentially converted from hinduism as a reason for their disenfranchisement was completely undemocratic and inhumane. Also by alienating them we cannot solve this problem. Muslims might have a different point of view which might not be as zingoistic as the common junta wants it to be but that is not the reason for their disenfranchisement as Dr. swamy argues. Yes, India does have a "sickular" mindet where everything indegeonous is looked with a prism of sickularism. Classic example was the ruling of Karnataka govt. to make Bhagwad Geeta (one of the greatest treasures of indian culture) mandatory for school childrens which met serious opposition from elites on the basis of alienating other faiths. I think one should as an indian national be able to take pride in something as spectacular as Bhagwad Geeta which btw could be used a tool like the chinese have with their "art of war, chinese food etc.. But what do i know, by reading bhagwad geeta in public i might offend people who read quran or bible. Can this concept of disnfranchisement work?
Israel does practice measures like these for its 20% arab population but there is a huge difference in the cultural makeup of indian and israeli society and pschye. Israelis are not only proud but willing to sacrifice their lives for survival, surrounded by enemies they have built a society based on fear of obliteration. Enemies of Israel have vowed to make them extinct, this gives them the adrenaline rush required to survive. In 1972 when members of Israeli Olympic team where taken hostage by terrorists and eventually killed Israel mourned like any other nation could but with a difference. In years to follow their secret serviced hunted down every culprit and killed them. They did not forget niether did they forgive. Israeli pshyche of survival is quite simply " if you mess with us, be prepared to face the consequences". In 2009 a hamas leader was gunned down in a dubai hotel by mossad agents who entered the hotel in garb of british diplomats. Isreali intelligence act on anonymity across the globe with one intention, kill the enemies.
Now where does India stand viz. being a victim of terrorism, Pakistan has waged a war that is continuing even today in form of terrorism, if we retaliated it would mean a full scale war between nuclear capable countries. India cannot afford a nuclear war with pakistan at this stage. So whats the solution to terrorism. Pakistan will not back down coz it generates enough rhetoric on Kashmir for people to indulge in this so called "freedom struggle". How can India avenge this humiliation which it faces from time to time from these cross-border nomads.
If i was the prime minister of this country i would ask my premier intelligence agency to assemble a lethal force that hunts down enemies across the globe and kills them. Lets assume an indian spy with no traceability kills Hafeez Sayeed in Pakistan, would it create a furore as opposed to direct involvement of indian government. I have no doubt that people like Hafeez Sayeed play an active role in terrorism. One would say what will it achieve, there could be another hafeez sayeed waiting to take the lead. I would like to point out that it will act as a deterrence, the message would be dont mess with us, we will react and put an end to this. We are not a soft state which will suffer. I dont think its impossible to have an attitude like Israel who do work invisibly to safeguard their interests but we still dont have that attitude.
Now why is that we dont have such men amongst us, i think we indians dont really take pride in our nation, yes we have ignoramuses who shout vande matram but do you think they will sacrifice their lives in anonymity for this country. To do that one must feel oblized to this land, one must take pride in this nation. I dont think indians take much pride in their country. Every reaction of the governments seems to suggest that their is no political will to tackle the scourge of terrorism. If terrorism had no religion why do people play politics in its name. Digvijay Singh, by emphatizing with batla house terrorsists not only embarassed the nation but proved how selfish indians are.
Assuming the reason for susceptibilty to be cowardice and selfishness of indians at the core why do you think is it? Why have people not taken umbrage at the the fact that there are people who want to kill us on a daily basis, there are people like hafeez sayeed who dream of the mughal sultanate returning to India alive and spitting venom.
The answer is quite simply no one cares enough.
